WEEK 2 RECAP

Week 2 of Charger football kicked off with a BANG as our 7th grade C team faced off against the Wright Lions. Last week, our aerial attack was the star of the show. This week, the ground game was the unstoppable force. The offensive line was MOVING people and our running backs were breaking tackles left and right on the way to the end zone. Ryker Cummings and Khalid Shittu led the way including a big time run with multiple broken tackles leading to Shittu winning our "Angry Run" award of the week for the 7th grade. The defense only gave up one score on the way to a 32-6 victory to start off their season 2-0. 7th grade B team took some of the lessons they learned from their week 1 loss and got after it in practice. Their efforts leading to a tough physical game where the offense got rolling late in the game. Wyatt Baker scored the game tying touchdown with only seconds to go to salvage a 6-6 tie in what was a very hard fought game. The defensive effort was led by Jackson Campbell who had a forced fumble and Ashtin Lancaster at linebacker. 7th grade A team started the game off fast with a quick score to take the 6-0 lead against the Banks Gators behind the running game with big carries by Braylon Darrell leading to Austin Nation punching it in from a yard out for the touchdown. The defense matched the offensive output with a pick 6 from Jeremiah Vincent to complete the scoring for the night. A 14-0 victory to cap off a solid Monday night of football. 8th grade C team kicked off their season after a Week 1 bye against the Banks Gators and it started off STRONG! Jeremy Federick took the opening kickoff back for a return touchdown to give them a 6-0 lead right off the bat. The defense was swarming all day leading to only giving up 1 touchdown on a broken up pass that ended up in the hands of the receiver. Quarterbacks Jace Loggins and Sophia Mann led the offense up and down the field the entire game for an 18-6 victory. 8th grade B team after struggling a bit in week 1 on offense decided to flex their muscles a little bit against the Gators. Quarterback Adrian Wall showed off his wheels to score multiple rushing touchdowns on the day. The defense was led once again by Ryland Parks who refused to let the offense get outside the box and Ben Cross who intercepted a pass and returned it down towards the goal line to set up the offense for a punch in score. At the final buzzer it was 38 Chargers and Gators 0. The 8th grade A team finished out a great two days of football with a 30-6 victory over the Gators against former teammates and coaches. Quarterback Jace Medica led the way with 3 rushing touchdowns including an 85 yard scamper up the middle where he outran the defense to the endzone. Receivers Landon Kennedy and Gionni Hawkins both had huge catches on the first drive to help punch in the ball on the first possession of the game as well. RB1 Jeremiah Nolen ran the ball well and scored his first touchdown of the year as well. Defensively, Jeremiah Sheppard led the defensive line with multiple stops and holding penalties produced. After 2 weeks the overall program record is 9-1-1 as we got into the bye week we look to continue to improve our fundamentals and knowledge of the game as we keep an eye on our next opponent the Reading JH Longhorns.
