WEEK 4 RECAP

Coming off the bye week last week our Charger football teams faced their toughest opponent yet in the Reading Longhorns. 7th grade C team fought a tough game but ultimately came up short in a 20-19 loss. The offense was led by Khalid Shittu with a long TD run, and Ryker Cummings who returned a kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown. The 7B team came up with their first victory of the year in a tightly contested game with a 14-12 victory with the margin coming from a clutch kick from Santiago Pineda for the 2 point PAT. Special teams struck again with a kick return touchdown from Dylan Lightfoot and the offense was steadied by the hard nosed running of Lyric Johnson who scored as well. The defense settled in nicely after giving up a couple of early touchdown runs. Making multiple stops at the end of the game to keep the Longhorns out of the endzone. Benjamin Manchaca had multiple pass deflections at the end of the game to shut down the Longhorn offense. 7A team had a tough game with a 0-6 loss. The defense played stout all night but let the running back sneak through on one play that ultimately made the difference in the game. The offense was led by quarterback Parker Mueller who made several tight window throws to keep the chains moving. The 8C team put on an offensive display in the first half on Tuesday evening. Quarterback Jace Loggins threw for 3 touchdowns in the first half to receivers Eduardo Acurero and Knox Nguyen to put the Chargers up 22-0 going into halftime. The defense was led by strong efforts from the whole defensive line group and safety Joshua Alexander held down his side of the field and forced a fumble. Kicker Arjun Patsa made 2 of his PATs and kicked the ball well on kickoffs. The 8B team was not to be outdone on offense putting up 30 points on a previously unbeaten team. Quarterback Adrian Wall punctuated a 13 play drive with a touchdown run to tie the score up after Reading scored on their first carry of the game. Yekinni Abdulraheem punctuated a scoring drive with a short touchdown run of his own. The 8A team had a tough game with an 8-30 loss against a physical Reading team. Quarterback Jace Medica took the first offensive play 57 yards for a touchdown to tie the game up at 8-8. Unfortunately, special teams turned the tide with Reading recovering two onside kick attempts to secure extra possessions. The defense struggled early to stop the run but settled in later in the game. All teams will look to their next opponent the Wright Lions on Monday and Tuesday next week.
